The ASK

The Fashion Event Planning class (with 13 peers) were selected based upon our academic success, performance, and experience. As a team, we planned and ran the VCUarts Fashion Show — CONTEXT.

Meet the Team

I had the opportunity to take on the role of music curator for the show. In this role, I not only selected songs but also crafted a narrative through music, setting the overall atmosphere and deepening the thematic impact of the show. Additionally, this experience allowed me to enhance my music mixing skills and proficiency with GarageBand.

The Music

The show contained 9 different segments which had their own song, all instrumental.

MODEL CALL

Working in cross-functional teams, committees collaborated to support the model committees during their critical model call.

In my role, I was responsible for crowd control and ensuring that the check-in process went smoothly.

Guides and Volunteers

As the Front of Operations committee, our role was critical this year. With the VFMA open to the public and multiple events happening simultaneously, our guides were essential in navigating these complexities and contributing to the event's success.

Before The Show: Seating

Hours before the show, I had the opportunity to collaborate closely with Dedria Arrington, the Chair of the Fashion Department. Under significant pressure, we successfully arranged seating for all Senior Designers, their friends and family, as well as guests from the Event Planning class, ensuring equitable distribution for everyone involved.

The Outcome

The success of the show has provided valuable opportunities for reflection and improvement. One significant outcome was the implementation of splitting guides into groups, which proved essential for effective crowd control. This strategy greatly benefited the team and can be adopted by next year’s team to enhance front-of-house operations.
